Teaching Philosophy: My goal is to provide a supportive and inspiring atmosphere where my students can develop a life long love of music. I challenge each student to strive for a high standard of musicianship while having a fun and enjoyable experience.
Curriculum: My curriculum includes a variety of quality repertoire, theory, technique, sight reading, improv, composition and ear training. I use a variety of different beginner methods, chosen to suit the need of the individual student. After the beginner method books, I follow the Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus and exam program. Additionally, students can choose to supplement their studies with other styles of music, such as jazz, pop, ragtime, and movie music. I enjoy incorporating technology and off-bench activities into my lessons to help reinforce concepts in a different way. Students have access to on-line games for theory, listening and reading, for a fun way to learn valuable musical skills at home.
Performance Opportunities: I have two studio recitals each year. For additional performance opportunities, I have Performance Classes on occasional Saturday afternoons throughout the year. Younger students have the opportunity to attend Studio Parties at different times throughout the year. I also encourage students to participate in Contemporary Showcase and the Da Capo Music Masterclass.
