Piano lessons are satisfying and enjoyable, especially when steady progress is maintained. This can only be accomplished with regular practicing by the student, assisted by parental encouragement.
Parental support is essential to the student's progress.
You can help by:
- Arranging a suitable time and atmosphere for practice that is free from distractions such as the TV and other siblings.
- Reading the notebook to see what is required to be practiced and completed during the week, and for any other special notes.
- Supervising the practice sessions of younger children and encouraging them to do all the aspects of the assignment as outlined in the notebook.
- Attending your child's recitals and other performances.
- Expressing positive comments on your child's performance of repertoire during practice and in recitals.
- Considering student participation in worthwhile educational opportunities, such as festivals and exams, when requested by the teacher.
- Keeping your piano in good working order and repair, and tuning it at least once a year.
- Ensuring that the student’s finger nails are kept short. Long nails interfere with proper hand position.
- Encouraging listening to a variety of music, including classical music.
- Attending classical music concerts with your child, such as the Regina Symphony Orchestra, Regina Musical Club.
Consistent practice is the crucial component for success. The responsibility for this is shared by the parents, teacher, and especially the student. Strong work habits, self-motivation and the love and understanding of music are all values that will be developed.
